UPSL Announces Michigan Expansion with Internacional Club de Futbol Detroit

Pontiac (Mich.)-Based Pro Development Club Will Join Midwest Conference
Published Nov 12, 2019

November 12, 2019 – Los Angeles – The United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) is excited to announce Internacional de Futbol Detroit as a new member kicking off with the 2020 Spring Season.

Based in Pontiac (Mich.), Inter Detroit will begin UPSL play in the Midwest Conference East Division, and is currently finalizing its venue options in compliance with UPSL's National Standards.

United Premier Soccer League Michigan Manager Robert Brinkman said, "I've had the pleasure of seeing Inter Detroit in competition this year and was impressed every time by what I saw. It is clear Inter Detroit brings a passion for the game, and their fans and supporters care deeply about what the club is doing. Inter Detroit will be a great addition to the Midwest Conference."

Edwin Jimenez is Co-Owner and General Manager of Inter Detroit. A native of Pontiac (Mich.), Jimenez graduated from Pontiac High School, and was a student-athlete at Rochester (Mich.)'s Oakland University.

Inter Detroit General Manager Edwin Jimenez said, "We were looking to take the club to the next level, and as cliché as that sounds, we're looking to make a real change in the community. There are a lot of good soccer players that come from Detroit, but for the players from outside the metro Detroit area, they're kind of forgotten about so we feel that's our niche. We want to give those players the same opportunities, and create real opportunities for other young players. We're excited to join the UPSL, and with the product we have we know we can do it our way and run it the way we want to run it. We want to do it right, and we feel like we'll fit in the UPSL, we'll be appreciated, and our investment is worth something."

Omar Trevizo is Co-Owner and Director of Inter Detroit. A native of Pontiac (Mich.), Trevizo was a two-year varsity soccer player and graduated from Ortonville (Mich.)'s Brandon High School.

Luis Jimenez is Head Coach of Inter Detroit.  A prominent youth player from Pontiac (Mich.), Jimenez previously played for River Detroit, an affiliate of Argentina giants Club Atletico River Plate.

Inter Detroit completed its first season in the Michigan Premier Soccer League (MPSL)'s Open Division earlier this year, and is currently riding an eight-game unbeaten streak in the MPSL Fall Season.

Inter Detroit is affiliated with Auburn Hills (Mich.)-based Wild Dogs Futbol Club, a youth club that features recreational and competitive teams for boys and girls of all ages, servicing hundreds of players in metropolitan Detroit and the surrounding areas.

Inter Detroit will host tryouts in January, and will soon announce its upcoming game schedule.
